Cro Cro lashes out at critics

Monday, February 26 2007

Cro CroCALYPSO Monarch Wins-ton “Cro Cro” Rawlins came on stage breathing fire on Saturday night at the Queen’s Park Savannah at Champs In Concert — a show which was sold out as early as 7.45 pm. Many people were turned away, according to Pan Trinbago officials. Fire officers also worked overtime keeping patrons from going into the stands.

Dressed in a flaming red suit and hat to match, the “Mighty Midget” lashed into his critics who said he sang an old song to win the Calypso Monarch title on Carnival Sunday night.

Cro Cro asked his audience if he could sing a verse of a new song before doing his title-winning rendition. The audience obliged. He said the song was called “I want an apology” in which he cast scorn on Gypsy, Sugar Aloes and Skatie.

Cro Cro damns colleagues

by Debbie Jacob

Cro CroNo one claimed that Cro Cro pulled his calypso crown out of a hat, but minutes after he was crowned the National Calypso Monarch of Trinidad and Tobago, calypsonians began to cry Cro Cro had dipped into his “Suitcase” for the song he performed on Dimanche Gras. Cro Cro’s winning calypso, they claimed, had been sung in Shadow’s Master’s Den in 1989.

“Don’t mix me up in those young people soca bacchanal with people who can’t write songs and thief lyrics and music from old pop songs. I don’t steal from anyone—including myself. I’m too big for that,” says Cro Cro about the accusations that surround him.

PNM: Carnival 2007 the best

Mischief, says TUCO chief
Singers call for Cro Cro’s crown
Legerton, however, said Aloes and Skatie must bring evidence of Cro Cro’s wrong doing before TUCO can respond.

He said TUCO’s rules do not bar a competitor from performing old material in a competition, once the song has never been entered in competition before or sung at a tent.

“There is no problem with singing an old song if you never did it before in competition. A man can bring out a song now and sing it next year’s competition,” he concluded.
