Pan Trinbago meets with Udecott

PAN TRINBAGO president Patrick Arnold yesterday met with officials of the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDECOTT) at the Queen’s Park Savannah for a feasibility study of the western area of the Grand Stand, with respect to hosting the Panorama 2007 semi-finals there.

Arnold told Newsday he explained to the Udecott officials what they needed to have done including erecting bleachers along the east and west of the paved area of the Savannah.

However, he could not say how much patrons the bleachers will hold since that still had to be worked out. Asked about any meeting in the pipeline with Culture and Gender Affairs Minister Joan Yuille-Williams and the National Carnival Commission (NCC), Arnold said, “I don’t know when that will happen.”

  • No pan in Savannah …Panmen meet today
The Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDECOTT) has informed Culture Minister, Joan Yuille-Williams that the Savannah is altogether out of the question for the 2007 Panorama competition, even for the semi-finals.

  • No Savannah, no Panorama
CARNIVAL’S premiere pan competition Panorama is in jeopardy as Pan Trinbago insists there will be no finals if the semi-finals cannot take place at the Queen’s Park Savannah.

“If we can’t hold it right here in the Savannah then there can be no finals. Because without a semi-final there can be no finals,” Pan Trinbago president Patrick Arnold declared last evening.

Arnold took this strong position during a heated emergency extraordinary general meeting of all steelband leaders at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah.

Indeed, it is the plan to tear down the Grand Stand and replace it with a multi-million dollar Carnival centre that has precipitated the crisis over the staging of Panorama.

  • Bleachers for Panorama semis
If the Panorama semi-final competition is staged at the south-western side of the Queens Park Savannah, Port of Spain, patrons need not worry about seating accommodation, says Pan Trinbago president Patrick Arnold.
