TUCO, First Citizens Junior Calypso Monarch 2018

On Monday 05th February, 2018, the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO), in collaboration with First Citizens, hosted the National Junior Calypso and Soca Monarch Finals at the Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain.

The programme included remarks by First Citizens representative, Nicole de Freitas, an address by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, the Honourable Dr. Lovell Francis, guest performances by 2017 Barbados Junior Calypso Monarch, Teri Williams-Niles (Sparkle T), four times Junior Calypso Monarch Aaron Duncan and 2017 Junior Calypso Monarch, Shervonne Rodney.

A total of sixteen students participated in the calypso competition with fifteen-year-old Duane Ta’zyar O’Connor of St. Mary’s College emerging as winner. In second position was Rivaldo London of Iere High School followed by A’Janae King Fraser of Arima Girls R.C. School in third position.

In the Soca Monarch competition, from a total of six participants, there was a tie for first place between Sergio Camejo of Fatima College and Desle Julien of St. Mary’s College. Taking third position was Catherine Chandler of St. George East Educational District.

Among those present was His Excellency President Anthony Carmona. Musical accompaniment was provided by Len Cummings and D Wailers.
