Members of the public are invited to the celebration, which will feature a street parade starting at the Brian Lara Promenade, Port of Spain, at 3 p.m. and ending at the Savannah by 6 p.m.

The parade will showcase Carnival costumes and characters, and will be accompanied by steel orchestras, and African and tassa drummers.

At the Savannah, the celebrations will continue with performances by reigning Calypso Monarch Chalkdust, former monarchs Black Stalin, Denyse Plummer and Cro Cro, former Chutney Monarch Rikki Jai and other artistes.

Culture Minister Joan Yuille-Williams will officially launch the Carnival 2006 season.
