Caribbean Prestige Promotions (CPF) presented their 10th annual National Schools Soca Monarch at the Queen's Park Savannah on the 13th February, 2009. Before a large audience of parents, teachers and school children from around the country, thirteen primary school contestants and nineteen secondary school contestants vied for honours with their Soca compositions, backed by a quality live band led by veteran musician Joseph Rivers.

For those who say that Soca music is just about jump and wave, these young Soca aspirants surely proved them wrong with their songs that not only made the audience jump and wave but which also conveyed various messages. Michaela Weekes of Melville Memorial Girls RC School was the first performer as they roused the audience with an energetic rendition of her song "Standing on Solid Ground"; Nailah Khalabi of Mayaro Government Primary School celebrated the contributions of Ras Shorty I with her song "Celebrate Ras Shorty I". Necoda Francis of St. Theresa Girls RC School came to the stage against the backdrop of fireworks as she gave a spirited performance of her song "Spellbound".

Ferdinand Smith, the reigning champion was the last primary school performer and he showed his class with his song "Wave Something", however it was Timel Rivas of Rosary Boys School with his song "Raise Yuh Hand" who got the audience really pumped as he went on to win the judges nod to be crowned the 2009 Primary Schools Soca Monarch. In second place was Nailah Khalabi while Necoda Francis and Jenyse Raymond took third and fourth place respectively.

In the secondary school category, the high energy performances continued as Cassie Aaron of Blachisseuse High School was the first performer with her song "Trini Carnival" where she commanded the audience to jump and wave. Shyann Mejias of St. Francois Girls College performed her song "Then Ah go Wave" in which she asked how could she play herself and put my worries on the shelf when there is so much things going wrong in the country.

Marla Palmer of Matura Secondary School with her song "Show Me A Signal" asked the audience to show her a signal if they love sweet Trinidad to which they gladly obliged with a wave of hands. Megan Walrond, the 2008 and 2009 Calypso National Calypso Monarch made an entrance into the Soca fray with her well received energetic song "Soca Jam" that had a large crowd of supporters moving to the right and left in front the stage. The duo of Kresha Peruse and Naomi Dowridge of Guayaguayare Secondary School had a serious message with their song "Get On" as they advised the audience to get on, get on, get on the right track, and stamp negativity out.

Reigning Secondary Schools Soca Monarch Erphaan Alves of St. Georges College brought the Savannah to a frenzy with a non stop high energy performance of his song "Musical Journey". As smoke and confetti adding to the hype, Erphaan commanded the audience with the confidence of a seasoned veteran. With banners and dancers representing the different Trinbago peoples, Erphaan delved into some history of Carnival, brought on stage some Carnival characters on his way to capture the 2009 National Soca Monarch title. In second place was Kyle Cowie of Queen's Royal College with his song "Higher Level" while Megan Walrond and Nehilet Blackman placed third and fourth respectively.
