Event Date: February 05, 2007

Soca in the Square started off hot with its opening act, Machel Montano HD. Thousands of people left their places of employment during their lunchtime break to enjoy the mini concert courtesy the main sponsor, bmobile. This week-long activity began on Monday 5th February, 2007, and already people displayed excitement for this time-off during the day from their daily routines.

Although Montano's act was the main attraction, the audience at the Square were also treated to the musical talents of the melodic Patrice Roberts and Zan. They were both able to keep the crowd in a state of bliss, showing to them, not their singing abilities, but their skill in keeping the crowd interested in their performances.

However, the main performer during the midday hour was none other than the energetic, Machel Montano. He sang a medley of hits with the assistance of Farmer Nappy and the HD band and, as usual, maintained the high-energy pace throughout his performance.

Throughout Montano's presentation there were giveaways of jerseys and bandanas by the main sponsor, bmobile and this would continue throughout the mini-concert series.

After witnessing the highly energetic and entertaining performances on the first day of the concert series, it would be a difficult task to determine whether the performers on the following days could beat this standard.

The second day of the Soca in the Square concert series continued the high-spirited pace experienced the day before. This time, on Tuesday 6th February, 2007, the audience were treated to the majestic sounds of the Roy Cape All Stars band and its frontline singers Blaxx, Trini Jacobs and Olatunji Yearwood.

The Roy Cape All Star band, which already has a reputation for crisp and melodic music, were able to draw thousands of patrons to Woodford Square, just as the proverbial Pan Piper drew many by the sweet sounds of his instrument.

Each of Roy Cape All Stars' frontline singers brought with them a unique vibe to the music. However, the young Olatunji Yearwood seems to be the most energetic of the bunch and he was able to move the crowd with his antics and fresh dance moves.

Guest performing with the of Roy Cape All Stars band was the iconic Leroy 'Black Stalin' Calliste who worked the crowd into a frenzy. He sang many of his hits including "Black Man Feeling to Party" and other tunes.

The audience, after witnessing the quality performances with the Roy Cape band, would certainly be inspired to journey again to Woodford Square to see what next the concert series has to offer.

KMC with the band Red, White and Black was the next act to be featured in Woodford Square on Wednesday 7th February, 2007. Ken Marlon Charles, also known as KMC proved his worth as a Soca artiste showing the audience his versatile styles of performing as well as his huge repertoire dating since the 1990's.

The band Red, White and Black also proved to the audience that they are not to be taken lightly showing the audience their dynamistic sounds.

Featured alongside the KMC and Red, White and Black band were the big artistes Maximus Dan and Rohan 'Fireball' Richards. Both of them gave the audience tastes of their hits and moved the audience with their unique and powerful voices.

Two more days until the concert, Soca on the Square, comes to an end. So far, no one seems as though they want to leave.

No amount of water could quell the fire that Bunji Garlin caused at Woodford Square on Thursday 8th February, 2007. He and the Asylum band were able to attract a sea of thousands to the Square and entertain them with many of his popular hits. This crowd was possibly the largest, so far, of the bmobile concert series which, according to Bunji Garlin, is testimony of the love that his fans have for him despite not releasing a 'big tune' for Carnival 2007.

Joining the people's lyricist was Asylum band member, Ninjitsu and Faye-Ann Lyons-Alvarez. The audience was quite responsive to Lyons who moved the crowd with her powerful sound.

Also joining Bunji Garlin and the Asylum band was "the big man in the Soca Business", Neil Iwer George. He came out near the end of the concert and totally blew the audience away with his Soca tunes. Incredibly, after many years in the Soca industry, Iwer still possesses the recipe for Soca hits year after year.

Tomorrow would be the last day of the Soca in the Square concert series. It would be left to the audience to determine which featured artiste was their favourite.

The final day of the Soca in the Square, Friday 9th February, 2007, ended with a bang with Shurwayne Winchester and the band, Traffik. Shurwayne entered the Square through the crowd in a princely fashion with artistically made doves hovering over him.

As soon as he made it to the stage, the crowd went wild with excitement singing and chanting to his many hits.

Also performing with Winchester were his band mates Sean Caruth and Candy Hoyte. They also sang a few of their hits and accompanied Winchester with other tunes.

The iconic band, Traffik, also played flawlessly, much to the pleasure of the audience who were treated to a quality performance.

The Soca in the Square series was quite a success luring thousands to participate in the midday session. Those who looked forward to the break in their work and school schedules would have to wait till net year for the Soca in the Square experience.
