"Four Hundred Years" was what the opening act of the Kaiso Karavan Tent, Corey Burke, quoted as the amount of years that Africans had endured the cruelty of enslavement. In spite of that iniquitous period in world history, Calypso music, which was born out of the struggle to openly communicate with each other during the slavery epoch, has taken its place on the world stage.

Calypsonians can be described as the mouthpieces of a nation bringing to their audiences a wide variety of knowledge in many areas such as the social, political and economic history, in many different forms including humour, 'serious' Calypso and double entente in which the audience has to read between the lines to extract the true meaning of the song. These and many other styles of Calypso were what the opening cast of TUCO East Zone's Kaiso Karavan brought to the audience at the La Joya Auditorium on Sunday 21st January, 2007.

The auditorium was packed to its capacity and the audience was treated to the hot and raunchy styles of MC's Godfrey Pierre and Lil Jean. Audience members were also treated to the flawless sounds of the Ruiz Brothers Band and the Karavan Jems.

Speaking on that night was Minister in the Ministry of Community Development, Gender Affairs and Culture, Mr. Eddie Hart who praised Minister Joan-Yuille Williams for her tireless and continuous efforts to upkeep and promote the culture of Trinidad and Tobago.

Also addressing the audience was the Chairman of TUCO East Zone, Mr. Johnson 'Johnny King' King, who courteously welcomed all to the La Joya Auditorium which has been the base for the Kaiso Karavan for the past 3 years. He also promised a fantastic show with wonderful performances on this and the other nights throughout the season.

Some of the very memorable performances included: Trumpet with "Nation's Children", Surpriser with "Leave D Salt", Winston 'Original "DeFosto" Himself' Scarborough with "Police Money", Scorpie with "Prime Minister Post" and Francine 'Singing Francine' Edwards with "Method of Approach" - each encompassing a wide range of Calypso styles.

Other performances included:

Lady La Fleur / "Little Piece Ah Man"
Dirty Curty / "Degree of Difficulty"
Paula 'Lady Paula' Salandy / "Nowhere to Run"
Bertie / "Stand up and Fight"
