The Divas Calypso Cabaret International opened its doors to the public on Wednesday 30th January, 2007, at the Mas Camp Pub to a moderately-sized audience. This Calypso tent, which has existed for four years, has aimed at giving women in Calypso their own space to foster and express their talents. So far, the Divas Calypso Cabaret International has grown increasingly in popularity and boasts of many fans of both sexes.

Speaking that night were Ms. June Matthews who gave the opening benediction; Mr. Timothy Watkins who briefly welcomed the guests; representative of the National Carnival Commission, Mr. Sigler Jack who traced the history of the tent; creator of the concept of the Divas Calypso Cabaret International Tent, Mr. Rudolph Ottley who stressed the importance of women in Calypso having their own location to do their work; and the Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs, Senator the Honorable Joan Yuille-Williams who pledged support for the tent. The Minister also recognized Mr. Rudolph Ottley's work with the all-female tent and the female Calypsonians' ability to carve a niche for themselves in Calypso.

The MC for the night was a diva in her own right, Ms. Naomi 'Hurricane Jean' Abiola Jean who exuded warmth and confidence and did an excellent job in keeping the audience entertained. Calypsonians were backed by Estrada's Dynamic 7 Band and were also entertained by the North-West Laventille Limbo Dancers.

Although many of the Calypsos sung that night were of a mellow variety, some performances managed to heat up the place such as Stacy Sobers' "Feel It", Angela Ramoutar's "Boldface Woman" and Sister Ava's dynamic presentation. Another winning performance was Sweet Jean with her song titled "One More Brick" which was quite a clever composition.

Below is a list of the artistes and their songs:

Stacy Sobers / "Feel It"

Kimlyn Harrison / "Freedom"

Karen Eccles / "A Mother's Response"

Dalia / "Long Time"

Joanne Foster / "Victim" and "Yuh Cant Take Nothing"
