The Denise Belfon in Concert was another blemish on the Carnival scene. The show was held on Thursday, 23rd February, 2006 at the Jean Pierre Complex. The show, which was produced by Randy Glasgow, was in a word, atrocious. Patrons started to fill the Jean Pierre Complex by 8.30pm, which was the advertised starting time.

Eddie Charles and Triple X started things off with an energetic performance which served to hype the crowd. This burst of energy soon died, however, because the artistes that were scheduled to perform did not yet arrive. People waited for more than an hour and began to get upset and agitated. "We want we money back!" became the chant until the next performer, Knycky Cordner arrived on stage.

Cordner did her best to control the wild crowd and was quite successful. She got them to sing along to her song and to almost forget the long wait. However, after her performance, there was another long wait; perhaps an hour or more. Some patrons, fed up of the wait, left the show prematurely.

Prophet Benjamin appeared next to the delight of many of the spectators. However, people were still uneasy and did not receive him well. Again, the audience had to wait another fifteen minutes or so for Allison's band to set up on stage.

When she finally arrived on stage she apologized for her late arrival, which she said was out of her control. The audience was forgiving and enjoyed the medley of her popular Soca tunes.

Next on was Sharlene Boodram followed by Nadia Batson, Blakie and Gail-Ann. Their performances were fantastic and well received by the audience. However, due to time constraints and anticipation to see the star attraction, their performances were tight.

Finally, the Diva of the night arrived, much to the delight of all in attendance. She too apologized on behalf of herself and Randy Glasgow. Thereafter, she began her performance in true 'Saucy Wow' style. By this time, the audience, some of who were forced to take shelter because of the rain gathered in front the stage to have a close view of the sexy Denise Belfon. Unfortunately, many in the front rows were blocked from full view of the stage. Producers of these shows should do better planning to avoid things like this from happening. Obviously, the producer of this show was content with mediocre planning and organization.

After Denise's spicy performance was the popular boy band 'Surge', followed by Terry Seales. By the time 'Surge' performed rain began to fall again and many decided to leave. However, the crowd that did remain rushed in front of the stage to sing and dance along to their song, "In Your Timing". Terry Seales followed demonstrating how Trini's "got the waist" to swing during the Carnival.

Although the individual performances were fantastic, the structure of the show was horrible. The quality of sound left much to be desired, the lighting was poor and the venue, although appropriate for the size of the crowd, did not cater for the weather.

What was also very ugly was that the MC, Alicia the Duchess knowingly or unknowingly kept insisting that performers such as Bunji Garlin, Shurwayne Winchester, G Unit with Vincent Rivers, Faye Ann Lyons, Michelle Sylvester, Sanelle Dempster, Clifford Learmond and Blue Ventures were coming to perform, which none of them did. This lie encouraged people to bear the rain and the long wait and angered spectators even more when the concert ended and they were a no-show.

The love for 'Saucy Wow' saved what was left of the show. Hopefully, producers of such events would take our critique into consideration.
