CARNIVAL’S premiere pan competition Panorama is in jeopardy as Pan Trinbago insists there will be no finals if the semi-finals cannot take place at the Queen’s Park Savannah.

“If we can’t hold it right here in the Savannah then there can be no finals. Because without a semi-final there can be no finals,” Pan Trinbago president Patrick Arnold declared last evening.

Arnold took this strong position during a heated emergency extraordinary general meeting of all steelband leaders at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah.

Indeed, it is the plan to tear down the Grand Stand and replace it with a multi-million dollar Carnival centre that has precipitated the crisis over the staging of Panorama.

The Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDECOTT) has informed Culture Minister, Joan Yuille-Williams that the Savannah is altogether out of the question for the 2007 Panorama competition, even for the semi-finals.
